Whilst the utility of FFPE samples for multi-gene NSCLC diagnosis is considered the norm now, there are situations where FFPE samples are not available for late-stage lung cancer or not yet available such as during early-stage lung cancer diagnosis. Hence, there is a need to diversify the sample types to perform multi-gene diagnosis and plasma, pleural effusions, sputum have been identified as promising alternatives.

Dr Daphne Chua-Ang is an active consultant in pathology in several tertiary hospitals in the Philippines and heads the Department of Hematology and Department of Molecular Pathology in the two branches of the St. Luke's Medical Hospital system. In addition, she also heads the Molecular laboratory and clinical laboratory of Detoxicare Laboratory, and is Head of Laboratory at MP Diagnostics Laboratory and Premium Medical Laboratory. She is also an Instructor V of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines.
